Domaine Leroy Corton-Renardes Grand Cru 2011

A wonderfully fresh and beautifully layered nose speaks of ripe yet airy plum, dried flowers, in particular violets, cassis and plenty of sauvage character. There is outstanding size, weight and intensity to the broad-shouldered and superbly well-concentrated flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract that pushes the otherwise very firm tannic spine to the background on the almost painfully intense finale. This is a big but not especially rustic or austere effort that should age gracefully for many years to come. I have always believed that the Renardes is the sleeper value among the Leroy grands crus, not because it's not as illustrious so much as it requires so much cellar time to reveal its full potential. If you have the patience, this is one to strongly consider. Drink date 2028+
